Home : USA 2000

Many years ago Amma told the devotees in America that S/He would make the first trip to the US when they bought a piece of land. A group of devotees from New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania got together and purchased some land in Chester Springs Pennsylvania early in 2000 and early that summer Amma made the official announcement that S/He would come to the US and officiate a Velvi for World Peace.

Amma arrived at JFK Airport in New York on August 27th and was greeted by many devotees. His entire family and many devotees from India came with Him. During the trip Amma visited many homes and mandrams as well as several Hindu Temples.

On September 3rd a Velvi for World Peace and the Welfare of America was held on the land at Chester Springs. This event was attended by a number of dignitaries including Bala Yogi, Speaker for the Indian Parliament. Honorable Bala Yogi laid the foundation stone for a Sakthi Peetam at the site.

On September 4th Amma performed a wedding between a Hindu Om Sakthi devotee and a Christian Om Sakthi devotee at the Wyndham Franklin Plaza Hotel in downtown Philadelphia, PA. Later that day Amma was honored with a reception by St. John's United Church of Christ in Lansdale, PA. Immediately following this Lansdale Sakthi Mandram was honored to host a reception for Amma.

On September 17th Amma again visited Lansdale Sakthi Mandram and talked to several devotees. The last day Amma was in the US S/he pointed out where a statue of Adhiparasakthi and swayambu should be installed at Lansdale Sakthi Mandram. Amma then visited Kendall Park New Jersey Mandram and departed from JFK Airport that night.

We at the homepage would like to extend our deep appreciation and heartfelt thanks to Omsakthi Ramesh from India, Dr. Adele Noe, Teresa Roba, Selvi Diana Kichenamurty, Selvan Reuben Pillai, and Sakthi Prema for capturing these wonderful moments with Amma in memorable photos and generously sharing them with all of us.

There are still more pictures and even video to be added so please check back from time to time to see the new additions. If anyone has pictures, video or audio to add please let us know. Descriptions of some of the events which do not have any commentary are also welcome.
